ALLEN PARK

A number of classes, programs and trips are offered to those 50 and older. The group of about 1,200 members takes day trips and enjoys extended travel, as well. The center offers such programs during the week as crafts, quilting and art classes to progressive pinochle and bingo. Jennifer Hughes is the senior specialist.
BROWNSTOWN TOWNSHIP

The Brownstown Senior Center offers a wide variety of activities for seniors on a daily basis. Included are a senior nutrition program, health screenings, educational programs and recreation. The senior center is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays. Activities include quilting at 9 a.m. Wednesdays. Blood pressure checks are given at noon the first Thursday of each month. The Brownstown Pleasure Seekers meet at 1 p.m. on the first and third Thursdays of each month, while the Funlovers Band and Chorus meets from 1 to 3 p.m. Mondays. Brownstown seniors also bowl every Friday. Transportation from the center is available.
ECORSE

Two groups meet at the Jefferson Senior Center - the Ecorse Young at Hearts Club and the Birthday Club. Young at Hearts meets at 12:30 p.m. the first Monday of the month and the Birthday Club meets at 12:30 p.m. the third Tuesday of the month. The center itself is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays. Sewing is offered from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursdays; and arts and crafts, from noon to 3 p.m. Wednesdays. Hot lunches are served at 11:30 a.m. weekdays, and a Meals on Wheels program is offered to the homebound. A senior bus also is available to transport seniors to doctors' appointments.
FLAT ROCK

Curb-to-curb bus service is offered at no cost, although a $1 donation is appreciated. The bus makes stops at Oakwood Heritage Hospital, Oakwood Southshore Medical Center, Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital, Mercy Memorial Hospital and The Mall of Monroe. It operates from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 5 p.m. Mondays through Wednesdays and Fridays. Transportation also is available within Flat Rock, North Line Road to the north, West Jefferson Avenue to the east and Huron River Drive to the south. Laurie Brown is the contact person.
GIBRALTAR

The Gibraltar Over-50 Club meets at 7 p.m. the second and last Fridays of each month at the community center. The club offers social activities as well as trips for members of the club. It is open to Gibraltar residents who are 50 or older. For more information on the club, call 1-734-692-3119.
The community center also is the site of the senior nutrition program for those 60 and older. Lunch is served at noon weekdays. Reservations must be made one day in advance by calling Marilyn DeBoard, site manager, at 1-734-671-0335.
GROSSE ILE TOWNSHIP

The Recreation Department offers year-round programs and services, including special events, holiday dinners, card parties, health and fitness classes, Meals on Wheels and van service for essential errands. The Grosse Ile Senior Citizen Club meets at 11:30 a.m. on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month at the Centennial Farm Activity Center, 25797 Third St. Coffee and desserts are provided for a nominal fee.
HURON TOWNSHIP

The center offers transportation, weekly pinochle at 12:30 p.m. Mondays, meetings at 12:30 p.m. the first Tuesday of the month, potlucks on the third Thursday, Meals on Wheels at 11:30 a.m. weekdays, blood pressure checks on the day of meetings, commodities on the fourth Tuesday of the month, bingo at 12:30 p.m. on the third Tuesday of the month, mystery lunches once a month, shopping at 12:30 p.m. Thursdays, a personal trainer at 10:30 a.m. Mondays and Thursdays and a movie day once a month. Many day trips and extended trips are offered.
LINCOLN PARK

Offerings include transportation, referrals, nutrition and Meals on Wheels, trips, parties, cards, senior food co-op, medical screenings, information, tax help, exercises, dance and craft classes. The nutrition program is offered weekdays for a small cost. Call 1-313-386-2641 for more information or to make a reservation.
Four clubs meet in the city. They are the Young at Heart, which meets on Mondays; Friendship Club, Tuesdays; Happy Hours, Wednesdays; Jolly Bunch, Thursdays; and drop-in day, Fridays.
MELVINDALE

Located in the Melvindale Civic Arena, the Senior Citizen Center is open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays. The center serves as a social club for those 60 and older. Special events include birthday parties and shopping expeditions. A number of daily activities are planned and a monthly calendar is available at the center. Commodities are distributed each month at the center. The city transports senior citizen residents who do not have transportation to the Senior Citizen Center, banks, doctors' offices and grocery shopping, among other places. The rides are provided by a SMART connector bus and two SMART vans, for a minimal charge. All vehicles are handicap accessible.
RIVER ROUGE

Residents 60 and older can take advantage of programs at the center, typically open for socializing from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. weekdays. A van offers transportation to and from the senior center and to meet special needs within the community at no cost. Meals also are served, beginning at 11:30 a.m. weekdays at the activity center, and also are delivered to the city's homebound. Reservations are necessary. It is not an income-based program.
RIVERVIEW

Those 55 and older and their spouses (regardless of age) make up the 400-member Riverview senior group. Depending on the weather, golf is the activity Mondays, club day is Tuesdays, bingo is Thursdays and men's activities are scheduled Mondays and Fridays. Trip programming also is available. Cab service is available for those 60 and older unable to drive or without transportation. The nutrition program offers lunch at 11:15 a.m. weekdays. Reservations must be made at least 24 hours in advance.
ROCKWOOD

In conjunction with the Wayne County Office of Nutrition, lunch is served to those 60 and older at 11:20 a.m. weekdays. Seniors begin arriving at 11:20 a.m. to socialize and play pool or cards.
ROMULUS

The senior center is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays. Activities are available to those 50 and older.
A hot lunch program starts at 11:30 a.m. weekdays. Contributions are accepted but not necessary. Meals also are delivered to the homebound. A full schedule of trips is planned throughout the year. Shorter trips via the senior van are made twice a month to shopping centers for a $1.50 charge.
SOUTHGATE

The senior center is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays with parties, bingo, card games, arts and crafts and trips, as just part of the offerings. A general meeting is held at noon Thursdays, with the second Thursday of each month reserved for a business meeting. Lunch is served at the center at 11:15 a.m. weekdays. The city also is the site of a liquid nutrition program from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. the third Friday of each month. For more information on that program, call 1-800-851-1454.
TAYLOR

The Ford Center is a community focal point where older adults come together for services and activities. No general membership is required; however, those interested must be at least 55 years old to participate. The center is open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays. A hot lunch is served both at the center and at Maplewood Senior Apartments, 15270 S. Plaza Drive, at 11:30 a.m. weekdays. Hot lunches also are available to homebound Taylor seniors.
TRENTON

Westfield Activities Center is a designated senior focal point. The activities center offers recreational activities and services from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays.
For the Trenton Friendship Club, a dance group, doors open at 4:45 p.m. Fridays from September through June with entertainment and a dinner dance approximately the third Friday of each month. The Friendship Club is open to all Downriver seniors.
WOODHAVEN

Woodhaven on Wheels offers curb-to-curb service for senior residents in need of transportation. The service will deliver riders to locations within the city, and extending to Telegraph and North Line roads and to West Jefferson Avenue. Reservations must be made in advance by calling 1-734-675-4926. The service is free to all Woodhaven residents. Also, free blood pressure checks are offered at 11 a.m. the second Tuesday of the month at the community center. Recreation programs include craft classes, cards, bingo, exercise classes, special civic events, day trips, picnics, mystery lunches, movies and special dinners. Meals on Wheels provides hot meals to homebound seniors five days a week. Contact the Wayne County Office of Nutrition at 1-800-851-1454 for more information.
WYANDOTTE

The center is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. weekdays. In conjunction with Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital, blood pressure is checked from 9 to 11 a.m. the third Tuesday of each month. Exercise classes are offered from 8:45 to 11 a.m. three days a week. A social is held at 12:30 p.m. every Tuesday, along with dinner dances on Saturday nights and Friday night social gatherings.
Senior Van & Bus Transportation Program: The van/bus is available to transport seniors in the local area for a one-way fee of $1 between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. weekdays. Call 1-734-324-7285 between 8 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.
Tele-Care Program: Telephone calls are made daily to shut-ins, and transportation is arranged for shut-ins who have doctor appointments or who must make other necessary trips. Call 1-734-324-7285 between 8:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. weekdays.
Taxi Token Program: Residents 60 and older, and those under 60 with disabilities, can use Trinity Transportation cab service at a reduced price at any time. Tokens are sold at the Recreation Department office at the Yack Recreation Center, 3131 Third St.
